POSTED Friday, July 31, 2009 at 6:00 AM I’m going to write about the David Ortiz/PED story, but I want to wait until more details come out (expect a blog on Monday or Tuesday). Let’s just say the whole situation is very sad. Read More
Tags: POSTED Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 6:00 AM Man oh man, do the New York Mets need help. Sure, they’re currently on a teeny-weeny, mini-win-streak (which I probably just jinxed), but a couple victories solve about as much as a Band-Aid on a shark bite. Forget about the issues on the field (yes, ESPN dedicated an entire “Not Top 10” to the Amazin’s), ineptitude permeates the entire organization, starting at the top and trickling all the way down to the AAA ballers currently on the starting roster. Tags: POSTED Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 6:00 AM I feel the same way about Major League Soccer as I do about Robert Rodriguez’s movies. In other words, I force myself to like a (usually) inferior product because, in the end, I’m rooting for overall success (defending the DVD purchase of Once Upon a Time in Mexico gets pretty tiring by the way). Most MLS games stink, occasionally a good one comes around, but in order for the growth of soccer to continue in this country we need to support the domestic league and players; that’s why I sit through more New York Red Bulls games than I’d like to admit. Tags: POSTED Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 6:00 AM I feel terrible. Really, I do. Yesterday, I wrote a blog about the “Top 5 Latino Hall of Fame Prospects” when, in fact, I should have been wishing Alex Rodriguez a happy birthday. That’s right, on July 27th “Everyone’s Favorite Overpriced Dominican Whipping Boy” turned the ripe old age of 34 (weird, considering A-Rod somehow seems older than I expect, yet younger considering the guy entered the league in 1994). Tags: POSTED Monday, July 27, 2009 at 6:00 AM Lot of Hall of Fame talk coming from baseball lately. First off, Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice entered the HOF over the weekend (along with the late Joe Gordon), and now, according to reports, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is “reconsidering” the Hall status of the currently banned Pete Rose (a decision with potentially huge implications for players of the “Steroid Era” like Sosa, Palmeiro, A-Rod, Manny, Tejada y mas). Tags: POSTED Friday, July 24, 2009 at 6:00 AM First off, if you get a chance to check out the World Football Challenge…do it! The exhibition round-robin tournament, which runs from July 19th-26th, features four no-joke squads (Chelsea FC of the English Premier League, Inter Milan and AC Milan from Italy’s Serie A, and Club America from Mexico’s Primera Division) loaded with top players. On Tuesday, I went to the Chelsea vs. Read More
Tags: POSTED Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 6:00 AM All has been waaaay too quiet on the A-Rod front lately. Sometimes “no news is good news” but with the Yankees’ third baseman I tend to go by the popular racing theory “silence is bad, you always want to hear something.” Over the past couple weeks the only Rodriguez story of note involved a little public canoodling with actress Kate Hudson, other than that A-Rod’s been as inconspicuous as a Lakers jersey on Venice Beach. Honestly, the lack of Rodriguez news made me nervous. Read More
