DEAN FLOREZ
California Senator, 16th District

Dean Florez is the grandson of farm workers and spent his early years living in encampments in the Central Valley of California, where he grew up. He earned a BA in political science from UCLA, where he also served as student body president, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a licensed investment banker and economic development specialist and was elected to the Senate in 2002. He is committed to farm worker rights, high-speed rail development, government accountability, and authored five historic clean air laws which took dramatic steps to cleaning the second dirtiest air in the nation. In 2005, he conducted the historic “Meeting in the Sun,” which shed light on heat-related deaths among farm laborers and led to comprehensive U.S. heat-stress reduction regulations for farm workers.

Florez lives in his hometown of Shafter, where his mother currently serves as Mayor, with his wife Elsa and their daughter Faith and son Sean. Back to main page.
