Alex Padilla was born and raised in Pacoima, CA and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The son of Mexican immigrants, he completed a post-graduate program in public policy before working for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and former Assembly member Tony Cardenas. Padilla was elected to public office in 1999, and at age 28, became the first Latino and youngest ever elected council president.
