POSTED Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 12:04 AM As a child going to the zoo was an unexpected treat. You’ll stare in fear at the lions, throw peanuts at the monkeys, and see massive piles of elephant dung. Well, if that experience sounds less than charming, then that you means you had better parents than I did (I keed). Read More
Tags: POSTED Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 11:53 PM I attended NY’s WKTU’s Beatstock concert last night at Long Island’s Jones Beach. It’s always billed as the main concert where all of freestyle’s classic acts come out and (for one night at least) perform to a crowd of hundreds. I’ve always been a fan of Coro, Lisa Lisa and other acts from my older sisters’ era but I was there for one act—Pitbull. As of recently, Pit has had a resurgence with a ‘80s-inspired club hits. He took the crowd (of mostly guidos and guidettes) on a Latin house party ride. Read More
Tags: POSTED Friday, August 14, 2009 at 12:25 AM As if you needed more Shakira videos in your life (you actually do), check out the third and final installment of the making of the “She-Wolf” video. If you haven’t seen the video in its entirety it’s basically Shakira contorting her body in ways which makes men quiver (in a good way). Check out all the videos here. Read More
Tags: POSTED Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 1:11 AM Jesse & Joy are like a new version of Pimpinela. Hmm? Jesse & Joy are like a Latino version of Donny & Marie Osmond. Hmm? Tags: POSTED Monday, August 10, 2009 at 1:53 AM Ahh to live in NYC and run into celebs and quasi-celebs. This past Friday night I went on a bro-date (pause) with my homie to check out the crap-tastic G.I. Joe. Yes, it was that bad; not even Siena Miller in tight latex could save it. Anyway I ended keeping guard of our seats (including the buffer seat between both of us) while my friend went to get snacks. Long story short, Kelis—fresh from giving birth and presently going through a divorce with Nas—sat next to us. I guess even R&B singers get fooled by big budget trailers. Read More
Tags: POSTED Thursday, August 06, 2009 at 11:00 PM I first heard of Frankie Negron when I watched Boricua’s Bond, an indie film he starred in. Truth be told I only watched it because a bunch of my favorite rappers (Big Pun, Method Man, Redman, etc.) made cameos. The flick centered on Tommy’s (Negron) dedication to art and his hood rat friends. I remember watching it quite a few times on HBO. I don’t know why. Oh yea the rappers. Anyway, I found out Negron was a salsa singer and a pretty good one. Read More
