'Avatar' Tix to be Given Away Online

I know, I know. I'm completely obsessed with Avatar, a movie that doesn't even have a trailer out.

But that's about to change, in a big way. Come Monday, those of us who eat up every little announcement about the movie will get a chance to see a 16-minute 3-D trailer at 101 IMAX theaters on Aug. 21, the first of its kind. Geek alert!

Free tickets to the trailer will be given out online. It's not exactly clear how just yet, but check Avatarmovie.com for updates between now and Monday.

I live in NYC and I expect it to be nearly impossible to get tickets, but I'll sell a kidney if I have to! If there are no takers, I'll just have to watch stars Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodriguez in regular 3-minute trailers in regular old 2-D online or at regular theaters (where it will play ahead of late-summer flicks such as "Inglorious Basterds" and other features).

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the extended trailer will contain a lot of the footage that's been shown at Comic-Con and at exhibitor events in Amsterdam and Hollywood—with an added new scene. Part of the footage shows actor Sam Worthington's character adapting to the strange  planet Pandora's environmnent, a forest attack by wolf-like beings and a battle scene.

Bring it on!
