Relationships Have SoundtracksPOSTED August, 21 2009 ![]() An article in the LA Times had a great title today: "(500) Days' Message: Every Relationship Has a Soundtrack". Referring to the awesome soundtrack that went along with one of my favorite movies of the summer, 500 Days, a romantic, uh...semi-comedy about a sweet sensitive guy who falls for a girl who just isn't that into him. It's really a great flick and I recommend checking it out if you haven't already, especially because what you really can't miss is it's great soundtrack (I'm listening to it as I type actually). While I love the songs included on the soundtrack, there's a very important point here. The combination of the love story and the music is what made me really dig it. That's because I've grown an emotional connection to it. I haven't experienced the type of relationship that the characters had in the movie, but there were aspects of both of them that I could connect with and empathize. It was just driven home with the music. We all know that feeling when we're in love--if we fight, there are songs that go with it. If we are smitten and giggly over the relationship, there are songs that fit our mood. If we're getting down--well, there are sexy songs to with that too. And it's acknowledged by the writers of the movie who said in the article, "We always felt that every relationship has a soundtrack," said Scott Neustadter, who co-wrote the film with Michael H. Weber. "Music plays a role in any kind of relationship, and it would not have been as real-feeling if we didn't acknowledge that." If you ask me about some serious times in my relationships--good or bad, I'll tell you the songs that I come to mind. And when I hear those songs randomly on the radio or at a party, I feel the same emotion that I did back then. No matter how much time passes. Music makes us connect...thank goodness for that. And with that, here's a song I've been listening to for the past week by Sara Bareilles called One Sweet Love:
